Predator, Prey, and Perfect Harmony

In the Spring, I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California. It’s a beautiful aquarium and research facility – I highly recommend you check it out if you’re ever in that area!

The aquarium has some of the world’s largest tanks that house over 80,000 animals and plants! I was mesmerized by different species of sea life sharing a space together, in total harmony. I saw 63in (1.6 m) stingrays gliding next to schools of tiny sardines. Every now and then a shadow was cast by a hammerhead shark, and then again by a 6 ft (1.8 m) sun fish – I didn’t know fish could get that big! I was in total awe.  

I’ve seen this snorkeling in the wild as well. It’s a beautiful experience to witness these preys and predators, recognizing (or at least I suspect) their symbiotic relationships with each other. Taking only what they need and contributing back to the ecosystem they all share. Looking all kinds of different, moving in their own way, with same same but different needs. Us humans have a lot to learn from these creatures.
